My Testament

AL. HILAL is an Iraqi-American writer whose work bridges the distance between two worlds—his childhood in Baghdad and his life in the American Northwest. A psychologist, educator, and storyteller, he writes with a quiet intensity shaped by war, migration, faith, and the deep devotion of fatherhood.
His memoirs and fiction explore exile, belonging, and the fragile courage required to rebuild a life from what remains. The Quiet After is his most intimate work to date—a testament to memory, endurance, and the unseen grace that carries us forward.
He lives in North Idaho with his son, where he continues to write stories that honor the wounded, the searching, and the ones who survived by hope alone.
